Two Fellowship Research Tracks
Chemical Sciences
Supports fundamental chemistry projects, including chemical physics, chemical engineering and materials chemistry. Research must be chemistry-centred, even if applications extend to other fields.
Chemical Instrumentation
For the design, development and construction of research instrumentation addressing an identified need in chemistry or adjacent chemical sciences. Proposed instrument work must fit the two-year award.

Fellowship Funding and Research Budget
The $224,000 base award is a two-year grant administered through the host institution, not an annual personal salary. It covers stipend/salary, applicable fringe benefits and research expenditures.

The optional third year is not automatic. Instrumentation supplements must be used for qualified development costs; they are not an additional personal stipend.
Who Is Eligible? Important Citizenship Restrictions
- Be a current chemical-sciences doctoral candidate expecting to complete the PhD by 1 May 2027, or a qualified postdoctoral researcher with a conferred PhD.
- For current postdocs, have no more than 18 months of cumulative postdoctoral research experience at the LOI deadline; applicants more than three years from their PhD generally do not qualify unless approved stop-the-clock circumstances apply.

The institution must have the facilities and administrative capacity to support the project.
- A mentor may sponsor only one applicant in the 2027 competition.
