Cornell PhD Admissions and Postdoctoral Opportunities
Choose the right route before preparing an application. PhD admission is organised by graduate field; postdoctoral appointments follow individual job or fellowship calls.

Fall 2027 PhD application examples
| Computational Biology | 1 December 2026. Fall admission only; no spring intake. Research background, transcripts, CV, statement and three recommendations are part of the field’s requirements. GRE is not required. |

The reviewed notices do not give a common closing hour. Submit early and confirm the deadline displayed by the relevant application system. English-language evidence or an applicable exemption must be checked against current Graduate School rules.
Computational Biology recommends identifying faculty whose interests match yours. For other fields, follow their own advice on faculty contact; do not assume a host commitment is required everywhere.
What PhD funding means
The Graduate School describes doctoral funding packages covering tuition, fees, health-plan coverage and a stipend, with support through fellowships and assistantships. Read the offer letter for the actual duration, summer coverage, duties and conditions.
ILR states five years of tuition, stipend and health-insurance support through teaching or research assistantships; student activity fees and living costs beyond the stipend remain the student’s responsibility. Computational Biology states admitted PhD students are funded while in good academic standing. Mathematics describes support tied to satisfactory progress, typically including summer support.
Do not treat these examples as a universal funding guarantee for every Cornell degree. Master’s and professional programmes can have different arrangements.
How to find postdoctoral opportunities
Cornell’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs directs prospective applicants to Academic Careers at Cornell, using the search term postdoc. Each job provides its own application instructions. Named fellowship schemes have separate eligibility and deadlines.
For biomedical roles at Weill Cornell Medicine, use its Office of Postdoctoral Affairs’ Postdoctoral Positions page and follow the individual listing. A listing should be checked for current availability before preparing an application.
KIC fellowship status: deadlines have passed
The Kavli Institute at Cornell’s page lists a 15 October 2026 deadline for experimental postdoctoral fellowships and 1 October 2026 for the theory fellowship cycle. Both dates have passed as of this review. The page’s retained “now open” wording should not be used to advertise those deadlines as upcoming; confirm any extension with KIC.
The experimental programme describes two-to-three-year appointments; theory fellowships describe two-year appointments. These are programme terms, not evidence of a currently open competition.
Postdoc checks before applying

Cornell graduate application policy
The Graduate School expects applicants to complete their materials without paid agents, credentialing services or other paid professional assistance. Breaching this policy may lead to rejection or withdrawal of an offer or admission.
Applicants may submit one Graduate School application per term. Cornell Tech, Weill Cornell and other admissions offices use separate systems; Graduate School applications are not transferable to those offices. Review the published generative-AI guidance and write in your own voice.
Preparation advice: read the field’s criteria yourself, keep a personal checklist and request recommendations early. Do not send unsolicited documents unless the field has approved them.
