ARC Future Fellowships 2027 at UQ

ARC Future Fellowships are designed for outstanding mid-career researchers who can demonstrate high-quality research, research leadership and the capacity to build strong research programmes in Australia.

FT27 provides four years of fellowship support and may include additional non-salary project funding for eligible research costs. UQ applicants must complete the University’s internal review process before the ARC submission.

FT27 Eligibility

For Future Fellowships 2027, the candidate must, as at the grant-opportunity closing date, normally have a PhD award date on or between:

Researchers with an earlier PhD award date may still be eligible where allowable career interruptions bring their effective research opportunity within the FT27 eligibility window.

Career interruptions

Applicants relying on career-interruption provisions should prepare early. UQ requires eligibility-exemption requests by 7 October 2026.

Submission-attempt limit

ARC has retained the maximum of three Future Fellowship submissions/attempts. Researchers should therefore check their previous Future Fellowship application history before submitting FT27.

Funding and Duration

Future Fellowships provide four years of full-time fellowship salary support. The fellowship salary is awarded at one of the ARC’s applicable Future Fellowship salary levels, together with salary-related on-cost support.

Project funding

In addition to fellowship salary support, the Administering Organisation may receive up to A$60,000 per year in non-salary project funding.

Eligible project expenditure can include:

• research personnel and technical support;
• postdoctoral researchers and research assistants where permitted;
• equipment and consumables;
• research infrastructure and facility access;
• fieldwork;
• specialised computing, data and software;
• publication, dissemination and research communication;
• workshops and collaboration activities; and
• essential project travel.

Project travel can total up to A$100,000 across the project period, subject to ARC rules and the approved budget.

What ARC Is Looking For

Future Fellowships are intended to support researchers who can demonstrate:

• high-quality research achievement;
• research leadership;
• research training and mentoring capability;
• strong national and international collaboration;
• excellent and innovative basic or applied research; and
• potential to generate economic, commercial, environmental, social or cultural benefits for Australia.

ARC encourages research aligned with Australian national priorities, although Future Fellowship applications are not restricted only to priority areas.

How to Apply Through UQ

1. Confirm eligibility. Check the PhD-award window, career interruptions and prior Future Fellowship attempts.
2. Engage your UQ Faculty/Institute Research Manager. Begin proposal planning and internal support early.
3. Submit the mandatory UQ Notice of Intent. Deadline: 7 October 2026.
4. Submit any eligibility-exemption request. Deadline: 7 October 2026.
5. Update your ARC RMS Person Profile. Ensure appointments, research outputs and participant information are current.
6. Prepare the FT27 application. Use the current Grant Guidelines and Instructions to Applicants.
7. List UQ as the Administering Organisation.
8. Submit the complete application to the UQ Research Office. Deadline: 12 October 2026.
9. Respond to internal review comments. UQ coordinates final institutional submission to ARC before 6 November 2026.
