What Changed for the 2026/27 Scholarship Cycle?

Dundee’s current Global Excellence framework is materially more generous than the previous cycle, but it also applies tighter academic and programme conditions.

• Undergraduate academic expectations increased from the earlier BBB-equivalent benchmark to the current AAB at A-Level or equivalent.
• The award increased from the earlier £5,000 level to £7,500 per eligible undergraduate year and £8,000 for eligible postgraduate taught study.
• Minimum programme-fee thresholds now matter: £21,800 for eligible undergraduate programmes and £22,250 for eligible postgraduate programmes.
• The undergraduate scholarship can reach up to £37,500 over five years where the student remains eligible and the full qualifying tuition fee is charged each year.
• Scholarship combinations are more explicitly controlled and cannot exceed the applicable Dundee limits.
• International College Dundee pathways remain outside the Global Excellence Scholarship.

Eligibility for January 2027

Postgraduate taught applicants

The January 2027 postgraduate Global Excellence Scholarship is intended for eligible international students holding an offer for a qualifying full-time, on-campus taught Master’s programme.

• International fee-paying status is required.
• The eligible programme must normally have an annual tuition fee of at least £22,250.
• The course must be an eligible full-time, on-campus taught Master’s programme.
• Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK First-Class degree or equivalent under Dundee’s assessment.
• Final academic qualifications must be available before the scholarship can be confirmed.

Undergraduate applicants

Eligible undergraduate applicants must hold an offer for a qualifying full-time, on-campus Bachelor’s programme and satisfy Dundee’s academic-excellence threshold.

• International fee-paying status is required.
• The eligible programme must normally have an annual tuition fee of at least £21,800.
• Applicants are normally expected to achieve AAB at A-Level or equivalent.
• Medicine and Dentistry are excluded.
• Final verified academic results are required for confirmation.

Scholarship Value and Duration

Postgraduate award

Eligible January 2027 postgraduate taught students can receive an £8,000 tuition-fee discount. This is applied against tuition fees rather than paid as a cash stipend to the student.

For eligible programmes lasting longer than 12 months, Dundee’s current framework can allow the award in qualifying academic years where the full eligible annual tuition fee is charged, subject to the scholarship terms.

Undergraduate award

Eligible undergraduate students can receive £7,500 for each qualifying year of study. The current maximum can reach £37,500 over five years where the student remains eligible and the relevant full tuition fee continues to be charged.

On programmes with non-standard fee structures, such as certain 3.5-year Business degrees, the award applies only in academic years where the full qualifying tuition fee is charged.

Eligibility Traps to Check Before Relying on the Scholarship

• Fee threshold: a course below the relevant £21,800 UG or £22,250 PG threshold may not qualify.
• Medicine and Dentistry: excluded from the undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarship.
• International College Dundee: ICD students are not eligible under the current Global Excellence framework.
• Predicted grades: these are not enough to confirm the scholarship; Dundee requires final academic qualifications.
• Deferral: moving an offer into a new academic year does not guarantee that the original scholarship will carry forward. Eligibility is reassessed under the new cycle.
• Cash payment: Global Excellence is a tuition-fee discount, not a general maintenance stipend paid directly to the student.

Can Global Excellence Be Combined with Other Dundee Scholarships?

Scholarship stacking is restricted. Dundee’s current framework limits how awards can be combined and generally prevents scholarship support from exceeding the applicable proportion of tuition fees.

Global Excellence cannot normally be combined with several major awards, including:

• Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship;
• GEMS Scholarship;
• Chevening Scholarship;
• Commonwealth Scholarship; and
• GREAT Scholarship.

How to Apply

No separate Global Excellence Scholarship form is required. The scholarship is assessed through Dundee’s admissions process.

1. Choose an eligible January 2027 programme. Check the study mode, academic level and tuition-fee threshold.
2. Submit the University of Dundee course application.
3. Receive an offer. You must also be classified as an international fee-paying student.
4. Provide final academic qualifications. These must meet Dundee’s relevant Global Excellence threshold.
5. Dundee assesses eligible offer-holders automatically. There is no separate scholarship application form.
6. Check the award outcome and tuition-fee position. If you hold another scholarship, confirm whether the awards can be combined.
