National Cancer Center Postdoctoral Fellowship 2027: Current Status

Research Scope

NCC states that the fellowship supports training and research in:

• molecular genetics;
• cellular aspects of cancer biology; and
• tumor immunology.

Preference is given to projects directly relevant to the diagnosis and treatment of human cancer.

Eligibility

The current NCC fellowship summary states that awards are intended for applicants who:

• are generally under age 35, except in extenuating circumstances;
• have less than two years of postdoctoral laboratory experience;
• have received no more than one prior fellowship or one career-development award; and
• are not receiving concurrent support from another organisation.

Funding and Award Conditions

The award should therefore be described as a fellowship grant, not automatically as a salary or stipend. The sponsoring institution receives the award and must accept NCC’s no-overhead condition.

Application Package

The current NCC application materials require a detailed package including:

• completed fellowship application pages and Statement of Understanding;
• applicant NIH-format biographical sketch;
• sponsor NIH-format biographical sketch;
• research and professional experience information;
• statement of active, pending and planned other support;
• research proposal covering Specific Aims, Significance, Background/Preliminary Data and Methods;
• one-page list of publications pertinent to the project;
• lay description of the proposed project;
• sponsor’s description of the project and evaluation of the applicant;
• simple budget outlining proposed expenditures; and
• an additional recommendation letter addressing personal integrity and professional competence.

How to Apply

1. Review the current NCC Grant Application page and download the current fellowship application package.
2. Confirm that the applicant and proposed laboratory meet the eligibility and one-award-per-lab conditions.
3. Prepare the research proposal, biosketches, other-support information, sponsor materials, budget and recommendation letter.
4. Complete the Statement of Understanding with the required institutional signatories.
5. Follow the live NCC submission instructions and ensure the complete application is received by the deadline.

Second-Year Renewal

A second year is generally possible but is not automatic. NCC requires satisfactory first-year progress, documented through a renewal application and progress report.

• Renewed Year 2 funding is $62,000.
• A progress report of at least 750 words is required for second-year funding.
• Publications arising from fellowship-supported research must acknowledge National Cancer Center support.
